Eugene Duane (Punk) Simpson, 48, of Waterloo, died at home Thursday, February 4, 2010. He was born February 21, 1961 in Cedar Falls, son of Charles A. and Sharon Corwin Simpson. He married Janet Baggs on November 8, 1980; they later divorced. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic for several years in the local area. Gene was a member of Harvest Vineyard Church. He is survived by sons Charles (Rose) and Wesley, both of Waterloo; daughter Stacy (Mat) Simpson of La Porte City; two grandchildren Austin Dale Simpson of Waterloo and Amber Ann Simpson of La Porte City; stepfather and mother Charles E. Sr. and Sharon Penticoff of Cedar Falls; father Charles A. Simpson of California; five sisters: Chantel (Ivan) Penticoff of Cedar Falls, Kiana Wright of Virginia, Tracy (Kevin) Frisch of Dike, Shawna (Brian) Hagen of New Hartford and Korina (Ewald) von Aswege of Holland; brother Charles E. Penticoff Jr. of Cedar Falls; nine nephews and six nieces. Gene is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Duane and Dorthy Simpson, maternal grandparents Dale and June Corwin, and nephew Benjamin Lee Penticoff. Gene had a wonderful sense of humor and the art of “pranking” down pat (you never knew what he would do next). He loved spending time with his family; the kids especially looked forward to his visits because that’s when the “party” started. He was a talented mechanic for most of his life which developed his love for older cars or maybe it was the other way around. He was very intelligent and knowledgeable in many areas. With the mind of a scientist, he created several inventions but never patented. He was mesmerizing to watch as he puttered and tinkered with everything. Gene always put everyone before himself and touched many lives during his short life.
