Visitation:

4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Locke Funeral Home with Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. followed by public Masonic Service

Cemetery:

private family committal will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence
Military Honors will be conducted by Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and Independence American Legion Sheehan-Tidball Post #30.

Biography

Dale T. Zimmerly, 82, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center. 

He was born October 31, 1934 in Independence, son of JP and Florence Potts Zimmerly. He married Lilah Hand at First Methodist Church in Independence on October 12, 1957. Dale graduated from Independence High School in 1953 and University of Iowa in 1963 with a BA in Business. He worked at International Harvester for 18 years retiring in 1982 as Used Truck Center Manager in St. Louis; Vice President of Leasing and a Commercial Loan Officer for National Bank of Waterloo, retiring in 1995; Later, Dale worked for Triangle Plastics and Vose Industrial Moving Company. He served in United States Army from 1954‑1956 during the Korean Conflict in Company C 72nd Tank Battalion and received an honorable discharge.

Dale was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #138, board member for Greyhound Dog Track, Holman Lodge A.F. & A.M. #593 in Rowley and El Kahir Shrine in Hiawatha; past patron of Waterloo Chapter of Eastern Star, and Past Watchman of Shepherds of Madonna White Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Lilah Zimmerly of Waterloo; two sons, Bradley C. (Janet) Zimmerly of Atlanta, Georgia, and Robert J. (Brenda) Zimmerly of Independence; one granddaughter, Brittany (Stephen) Thomas of Buford, Georgia; one grandson, Jeremy Zimmerly of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Sandra Brown of Independence, and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded by his parents and two brothers, Ronald and James "Jim" Zimmerly.
