Biography Information

Elizabeth A. "Liz" Axline Tannreuther, 57, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. 

Elizabeth Ann Axline was born October 21, 1953 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri the daughter of Everett J. and Shirley Black Axline.  She graduated from Orange High School in 1972 and UNI in 1976.

Liz married William "Bill" Tannreuther August 20, 1983 at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren.  She worked for John Deere for 31 years; retiring in 2008.

Liz was an active member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren.  She sang in the choir, served on the church board and was a part of the live nativity. Liz was very active with the Christian Education Department; she taught Sunday school and served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Bible School and served as head of Christian Education. Liz volunteered with the Waterloo Community School District at Orange Elementary School.  In 2010 she received the Mayor’s Volunteer Award. Liz was a very musical person; she enjoyed singing and playing instruments. She was also an avid reader.

Liz is survived by her husband Bill of Waterloo, her mother Shirley Axline of Waterloo, a sister Sue Smoldt and her husband Bill of Cedar Falls, a niece and nephew Jordan and Aaron Smoldt of Cedar Falls. Liz is also survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert “Bob” and Charlotte Tannreuther of Waterloo, sister-in-law Ann Tannreuther of Waterloo, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Liz is preceded in death by her father and her grandparents: Herschel and Della Black and Everett A. and Lillian Axline.

Liz was an incredibly wonderful woman who always managed to put everyone else before her. She was very kind hearted and the kind of person we should all aspire to be. Bill, we are so saddened by your loss, and will miss Liz dearly.

Our thoughts are with you at the loss of Liz. She was a classy lady and a pleasure to work with at John Deere. I frequently relied on her expertise, and she was always gracious and patient in helping those around her. Her daily walk was a testament to her deep faith.

May it comfort you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. God assures us at Psalms 34:18 that he is near to those broken in heart and those crushed in spirit he saves. Jesus also promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again. Jesus own words found at John 5:28,29 tells us there will be a resurrection. What a wonderful hope! God says that soon on the earth there will be no more pain, suffering and especially death at Revelation 21:3-5 We anxiously await the day when we will no longer lose those we love. May these bible thoughts bring you comfort at this most difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear about Liz's death. I was unaware she was ill. She was a lovely person who always had a kind word for everyone. She is now up walking with Jesus and continuing spreading her love and heart with everyone. Take care my friend and God Bless.

My condolences to Bill, and the rest of the Tannreuther family on the passing of Liz. Unfortunately I never had a chance to meet her, but I understand she was a great person and will surely be missed. I wish all the grace of God's love in the days and months ahead.
