Biography Information
Agnes E. Thies, 84, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Covenant Medical Center on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 of natural causes.
Agnes Elizabeth Thies was born February 6, 1927, in Readlyn, Iowa, daughter of Herman and Florence Schuknecht Oltrogge.
She married Henry E. Thies on August 1, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Agnes and her husband owned A & H Furniture Store until 1961. They then ran a wholesale grapevine wreath business for 15 years until 1998.
Agnes was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo and a member of Lydia Circle. She also worked on the Election Board for 37 years.
She is survived by her husband; son Mike and his wife Tina of Waterloo; three grandchildren: Bryan Sawyer, Lindsey Roberts and Ashley Sawyer; two great‑grandchildren: Joy Sawyer and Olivia Roberts-Bertch; and brothers: Paul Oltrogge and his wife Joyce of Readlyn and Leo Oltrogge of Waterloo.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Edgar, Glen, Henry, and Ralph Oltrogge; and sister Edna Poock.
