Biography Information

Michael G. "Mike" Smith, 68, of Hudson, died suddenly Thursday, October 27, 2011.

He was born February 22, 1943 in Waterloo the son of Robert and Blanche Ranger Smith. Mike graduated from Hudson High School in 1961.

He worked at John Deere for 15 years then Land O'Lakes in Hudson before starting Hudson Auto Body in 1978.

Mike married Kris Evans on July 29, 1989.

He was a member of Fredsville Lutheran Church.  Mike could be known to torment others but on the inside he was very tender and would do anything for you.  He loved antique cars and would sit in a junkyard or car auction for hours looking for the right car. He was a good carpenter but was not known for finishing projects. Driving through Brandon one Sunday, Mike stopped the car to go through an earth home to draw the plans for his own home. He loved his dogs and they went everywhere he went.

Mike is survived by his wife Kris of Hudson; two sons: Jeff Smith of Hudson and Rob Smith and his wife Mindy of DeSoto, Iowa; two stepsons Jason Evans and his wife Angela of Cedar Rapids and Jeremy Evans and his wife Kori of Reinbeck. Mike is also survived by five grandchildren: Zach, Bryce, Katie, Aiden and Piper. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Treye Blythe.
