Biography Information

Frances Mary Nelson, 92, of the Glen Retirement Home in Shreveport, Louisiana, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died there on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 of natural causes.

She was born on November 19, 1919, in Fayette, Iowa, daughter of Frank L. and Ruby V. Lynch Edmonds. She married R. Frank Nelson in South Sioux City, Nebraska in 1939. He died February 29, 2008.

She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Frances taught elementary and middle school before starting her family and then after the boys were grown. She taught at Finchford and Dunkerton and retired from Waterloo Public Schools.

She was a lifetime member of PEO and Junior League. She taught Sunday School at First United Methodist Church in Waterloo for many years.

Frances is survived by her sons Robert (Julie) Nelson, Jr. of Shreveport and John (Connie) Nelson of Carlsbad, California, granddaughter Tammi Nelson of Shreveport, grandson Eric (Heather) Nelson, M.D. of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, grandson David (Jaclyn) Nelson of Shreveport, granddaughter Natalie (Tom) Romine of Carlsbad, and eight great‑grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by parents and husband.
