Marlene Mary Young, 71, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at home on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, of natural causes.

She was born June 8, 1940, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Phyllis (Welch) Burget.

Marlene married Sherman Moore and they later divorced. She married Donald C. "Tiny" Young on May 29, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He died September 2, 2009.

She was a cook for many years in Independence and had also driven dragsters. Marlene loved spending time with family. She enjoyed the Christmas holidays and would decorate her annual “teddy bear” tree.

She is survived by three daughters: Carletta (Dale) Ginther of Hazleton, Alisa Thomas of Waterloo, and Jean (Jerome) Wilson of Waterloo; four sons: Deon (Maxine Moore) Moore of Hazleton, Stuart (Bobbie) Young of Waterloo, Brock (Suzanne) Young of Waterloo, and Jesse (Jolonna) Young of Minnesota; 42 grandchildren: Deon’s...Latasha (Chad) Cookinham, Amanda Hernandez, Larinda Moore, Derrick Moore, Deon Moore Jr., and Quiton Moore. She is also survived by her sisters Sherill Cain and Michele Rose and brothers Paul (Carrol) Coventry and Craig (Nancy) Coventry.

Marlene is preceded in death by her husband, two grandsons, a granddaughter, a great-grandson; son-in-law Philip Houston, sister Rena Young and brother Stuart Coventry.
