He was born May 28, 1986 in Waterloo, son of David J. and Teresa J. (Moeller) Schaefer. Andrew graduated from Columbus High School in 2004. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Ecology from Iowa State University in 2009 and his master’s in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida in 2016.

He worked as a fisheries biologist for the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism, Cheney District.

Andrew is survived by his parents of Waterloo; brother, Matt (Alli) Schaefer of Springfield‚ MO; two sisters, Sara (Colin) Krantz of Cedar Falls, and Megan (Joe) Rubendall of Hudson; and six nieces and nephews, Lauren and Nora Schaefer, Jacob, Jenna, and Carter Krantz, and Jackson Rubendall.

I always enjoyed swapping stories about hunting and fishing with Andrew when he'd stop by my office.  He seemed to enjoy his job and everything outdoors Kansas has to offer.  He will be missed.

Praying for all of you in this time of loss.  Because they moved the position out of the Wichita office, before Andrew hired on, I did not see him very often.  However, he would always return my phone calls or emails and volunteered to assist me, such as with finding and checking bald eagle nests at Cheney.  I will miss his sense of humor, easy-going personality, and his desire to do the best job possible.  I pray that even in your grief and tears you will feel the peace of God that passes all understanding.
