John G. Dowd, Jr., 67, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 7, 2021 at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

He was born March 1, 1953 in Waterloo, son of John G. and Lavada Destival Dowd.

John graduated from Columbus High School in 1971.

He is survived by his sister, Julie Legeros of Seattle; two nieces, Elena (Shelby) Legeros, and Anna (Alex) Fleet; a great-niece, Evangelia Rose; and a great-nephew, Thomas Christopher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph L. Dowd; and a brother-in-law, Chris Legeros.

John was a great basketball player at Columbus. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially the basketball team. He also enjoyed reading.

    John was a great guy He Loved reading and drinking his coffee I'm going to really miss seeing him at the Pillar and talking about Basketball which he Loved also he had a kind soul and he  always had a smile on his face ...... R.I.P John

    Sorry to hear the news about John,  John and I played on the Columbus High School basketball team.  I always remember John could imitate a trumpet (and bugle) sound, perfectly, with his voice (aka mouth trumpet).  He did a great rendition of TAPS and the Star Spangled Banner.  My condolences to friends and family.
