Jon Gutknecht, 77, of Hudson died at at his home on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 of natural causes.

 He was born June 24, 1939 in the same house that he lived in his whole life in Hudson. He was the son of Frank and Carrie Haven Gutknecht.

Jon married Charlotte Irene Simons on May 25, 1985 in Hudson. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1957. Jon worked at the John Deere Tractor Works from November 24, 1958 to August 31, 1994; after retirement, he worked for Hawkeye Tile.

He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1957‑1963. Jon was a member of local UAW #838; EAA 227.  He was a lifetime member of Hudson AMVETS Post #82 and post commander 2002‑2014; Iowa 2nd district AMVETS Commander from 2010 to the present; and Provost Marshal from 2013-2014.  He was also a member of the  Reinbeck American Legion Post #242; and Captain of the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department from 1959-1989.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Robert F. (Rhonda) of Reinbeck; daughter, Carrie Ann (Virgil) Hamilton of Rogers, Arkansas; son in law, Wesley Martindale of Bentonville, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren: Chad J. Abel, Christopher C. Holmes, Crystal N. Redenius, Kayla M. Gutknecht, Jennifer M. Gutknecht and Nancy L. Galas; 10 great grandchildren: Dylan Abel, Danielle Abel, Alexandra Barto, Morgan Barto, Jackson Holmes, Maxson Holmes, Jameson Holmes, Ramzy Galas, Zayden Galas and Cyrus Galas; a brother, Richard (Nancy) of Cedar Falls; and his beloved cats.

 Jon is preceded in death by a son, William Jon "Bill" and daughter, Cathryn Mary "Cathy" Martindale.

    Jon was a great guy, an aviation enthusiast and an accomplished skydiver.  He will be missed within the aviation community.  Godspeed, Jon Gutknecht.
