Mary Lou was born March 5, 1938 in rural Mitchell County, IA, the daughter of Robert C. and Helen M. Shupe French. She married Harry A. Smith on April 4, 1953 in St. Ansgar, IA; he died February 15, 2008. Mary Lou worked in the JC Penny stock room retiring in 2000 after 30 years. Survivors include two sons, H. Bruce (Mary Lee) Smith of Center Point and Dan (Phyllis) Smith of Washburn; a daughter, Deborah Smith of Waterloo; 8 grandchildren: Klint, Keith, Heather, Brandy, Travis, Brooke, Nicholas and Laura; 17 great-grandchildren; and her sister Ardith (Wayne) Heins of Waterloo. It was nice seeing Deb and Mary Lou several years ago at the lawyers office. I lost my Dad a year ago. Its tough when both parents are gone. Prayers to your family during this difficult time.
