Biography

Norma L. Fossler Potts Boysen, 89, of Waterloo and Hudson died on Sunday, July 29, 2018 Martin Health Center of Western Home Community. She was born July 6, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Wells Kimball Fossler & Ella Croot Fossler. She married George Donald Potts on June 27, 1948. Together they had three sons and three daughters. They later divorced in 1976. She married Harlan (Herb) R. Boysen on July 27, 1993; he died January 25, 2013.

Norma graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1948. Prior to her first marriage, Norma worked at Mid‑Continent Petroleum Company. She and her first husband owned and operated the Piccadilly Tap in Waterloo and the Cardinal Lounge & Triangle Tap in Hudson. She also cooked at various local restaurants. Norma was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and formerly a member of the Community Church of Hudson. She enjoyed sewing and cooking, she was especially known for her potato salad and apple crisp. When she was active, she especially loved ballroom dancing. She and her second husband, Harlan, met at the Electric Park Ballroom and continued dancing there until 2006. The following is a portion of a letter written by Norma to her children, “My six wonderful children, when the Lord takes me under His care, I want you all to know that I’m proud of all of you and love you very much. Be good to your precious children and grandchildren. Help them to learn the teachings of our Lord.” What a blessing it is knowing that our Mother will meet Jesus face-to-face and live with Him in eternity.

Survived by: three sons, George W. (Diane) Potts of North Liberty, Jeffrey C. (Lynn) Potts of Zephyrhills, FL, and James D. (Stephanie) Potts of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Carolyn E. (Alan) Clausman of Guttenburg, Erlene M. (Jeff) Rhoades of Hudson, and Kelly L. (Martin) Bevard of Hudson; three step –sons, Phil (Phyllis) Boysen of Boise, ID, Bob (Susan) Boysen of Olathe, KS, and Curt Boysen of Elk River, MN; four step-daughters, Norma Peters of Cedar Falls, Linda McIntryre of Indiana, Nancy Fisher of Parkersburg, and Mary (Larry) Coffee of New Hartford; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her husband; a grandson, Scott Rhoades; two sisters Avis Dense and Florence Mehlhorn; and one brother Wells F. Fossler.

    So sorry to hear of Aunt Norma;s passing. She is the last of the siblings. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family. The celebration of her life is a first step in healing. My best to you.
