Rev. McHone had served as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ontonagon, and Trinity Lutheran Church of Bergland, Michigan 1974 to 1982, College Hill Lutheran Church of Cedar Falls 1982 to 1986, and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waterloo 1986 to his retirement in 2015.      Men typically have only a handful of others outside the immediate family that they will trust 100%. When I first met Randy 25+ years ago I still had some fingers left and it didn't take him long to claim one. While we didn't always stay close after the "high school wars" I always knew he was there. When we bumped into each other there was always time for a story and some encouragement. I will remember the last meeting we had when he preached at Ascension where we shared a big hello and a warm hug.

With this tremendous sense of loss my prayers are for the kind of peace that only God can bring to your family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. McHone and their five children as well as their families.  Pastor McHone was so kind to my mother after we had all left home.  She was still able to attend at Grace for several years.  I will always be grateful.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in Chaplain McHone's family.  He and I met when the members of the 248th AVN SUP BN of the Iowa National Guard prepared for deployment out of Waterloo in 2017.  He was a huge supporter of all men and women in uniform and was a very dynamic part of Operation Barnabas.  His smile was contagious and I cannot speak highly enough of how giving and loving he was and how greatly he will be missed by myself and those in the National Guard he assisted.

We are saddened for your family's loss, but are so thankful for Pastor Randy's faithful friendship and care of our parents, Rev. Sigmund and his wife, Ellen.  We know our parent's loved the entire McHone family.

I always enjoyed Pastor McHone's chapel messages at Valley Lutheran. He never left any doubt that he cared about the message he was proclaiming and that he cared about the people around him. He was a genuine man of God and I hope to someday see him again. The family is in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest and most sincere sympathy to the family. Pastor McHone performed my wedding nearly 31 yrs ago. He is the pastor I remember most from my youth and he was very supportive of both my parents during his tenure at Grace and beyond. He was beloved and respected.  He will be missed here, but I trust there is rejoicing in heaven at his entrance.

Dearly loved from birth and greatly respected as a man and pastor by his Uncle Paul Range, Randy was chosen by Paul and myself to be the officiating pastor at Paul's funeral in 2007.

I and my son Don Dowell, who felt instant rapport with Randy, feel deep sadness in knowing that he is no longer on this earth; but peace in believing that he is now in the company of his Uncle Paul whom we both miss.

Our condolences in Christ to Pastor McHone's family as God calls another faithful servant home. We enjoyed our time in Evansdale and Jesup, serving East Iowa along side Pr. McHone.

At the end of the Church Year Calendar all Christians are reminded we look forward to joining Pastor McHone, with angels, arch-angels, and all the company of heaven, in the eternal presence of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I always looked forward to the days when Pastor McHone would come to chapel services at Valley Lutheran. He faithfully proclaimed the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - and, oh, how he loved those kids.
