Biography

Sandra J. “Sandy” Seemann, 80, of Waterloo, died Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Covenant Medical Center.

Sandy was born January 15, 1939, in rural Grundy County, the daughter of Elmer F. and Ada M. Hanisch Lorenzen. She married the love of her life, LeRoy W. “Lee” Seemann on September 6, 1957 at Jubilee Church in rural La Porte City; he died October 19, 2000. She graduated from Reinbeck High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI).

She was a graphic artist at Morris Printing and Allbee Printing for many years. She was also self-employed for several years before retiring in 2005. During her time there she designed and produced many ads and publications for the local businesses and schools, as well as designing the Waterloo Black Hawks programs. She and Lee housed many players for the Black Hawks, which they enjoyed tremendously. They kept in touch with several of their former players.

She was a former member First Lutheran Church, Waterloo. She also volunteered at Waterloo Center for the Arts.

Sandy is survived by two sons, Steve (Jody) Seemann and William "Bill" (Kris) Seemann, both of Waterloo; one daughter, Kara (Todd) Turcotte Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren, Ben (Shelbie) Seemann, Morgan Seemann, Natalie Seemann, Cassie (Slo) Maljkovic, Mitch Seemann, Allie Turcotte, Elizabeth Turcotte, Matthew Turcotte, and Katerinne Turcotte; two great grandchildren, Holland Turcotte and Bennett Seemann; two brothers, Russell (Francis) Lorenzen of Ventura, and Loren (Lu) Lorenzen of Traer; one sister, June Meikle of Sturgeon Bay, WI; one sister-in-law, Marian Lorenzen of rural Hudson, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; twin brothers, Don and Bill Lorenzen; brother-in-law, Roger Meikle; and sister-in-law, Billie Jean Lorenzen.

Her door was always open to friends and family. She and Lee cared for their children and their children’s friends unconditionally. She loved her brothers and sister dearly and instilled in her children that family always came first. The family would like to thank Dutch Harn, who was a dear friend to Sandy and helped care for her after Lee died. He helped Sandy through many tough times and took the burden off of her children.
