Willie Eva Cook, 85, of Waterloo, died Thursday, December 24, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital from COVID-19. She was born December 30, 1934 in Batesville, MS, daughter of Willie G. Caldwell and Lydia Jones and graduated from high school in Clarksdale, MS. She later received her LPN Degree from Hawkeye Tech.

She married McKinley “Mack” Cook Jr. on March 9, 1956, in Nashua; he preceded her in death on October 13, 2015.

Willie worked as an LPN at Allen Memorial Hospital for 33 years retiring in 1992. She was a member of Payne Memorial AME Church. Willie was an excellent seamstress and artist. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, upholstery work, quilting, gardening, and cooking. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.

She is survived by two sons, Michael S. (Liz) of Waterloo and DeWayne of Japan; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Alberta Jones of Memphis, TN; and two brothers, Gus Jones of Memphis, TN and William (Merl) Jones of St. Louis, MO.

Willie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six sisters, and two brothers.

    To Cookie's family

    I worked with Cookie for nearly 20 years at Allen.  She was one of the best nurses in the Recovery Room that I've been privileged to know.  She was so caring for her patients and a joy to know.  May she rest in peace.

    So sorry to hear of your loss! She will be missed greatly! Now,shes with Verlean, Jackie and Ms.Josie!  So sorry that she is gone too soon! You were an awesome son and caregiver for your mom.
